IP Practice in Latin America

Latin America, particularly Mexico and the industrialized nations of South America, offers unique opportunities for AIPLA to inform the membership about advances in IP protection and enforcement in these countries, and to encourage further changes to the IP systems in the region that will stimulate and facilitate growth.

Many countries in the region have special interests in the protection of natural biological resources and traditional knowledge that necessitate an enhanced dialogue on the practical and policy level, since these issues have a direct impact on global harmonization of IP protection.  The IP Practice in Latin America Committee is the working arm of AIPLA for this purpose, and the committee holds meetings with the IP professional organizations of Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina, as well as regional organizations such as ASIPI.
